PassivHaus design consultancy

"PassivHaus" is a building design philosophy which suggests that developments should minimise their energy consumption through the use of measures such as a highly insulated thermal envelope, increased use of solar gains, a high degree of airtightness and energy efficient appliances.

Further, PassivHaus is more than energy reduction; criteria are based on levels of comfort.

In order to be PassivHaus certified, a building must have:

  • A heating requirement of less than 15kWh/m2/yr;
  • An airtightness n50 value of less than 0.6ach;
  • An overheating frequency of less than 5%;
  • An internal surface temperature of more than 17 degrees; and
  • A primary energy demand of less than 120kWh/m2/yr.

Through experience and in using the PassivHaus Planning Package (PHPP), Phlorum can assist designers in achieving the above standards for their projects.
