Mining Environmental Impact Assessment

Mining operations can have a significant impact on the environment. Therefore, in most countries they are subject to the requirements of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). For mining projects in the UK this is fairly straightforward, following a similar assessment process to that of large industrial, engineering and development schemes.

However, in developing countries, where mining proposals can be extremely large and where new infrastructure required to service the mine can be significant, the EIA process can be considerably further reaching, with much more significant social impacts.

Phlorum has completed numerous mining projects in the UK with staff attending Public Inquiries as expert witnesses.

We have also been involved in larger projects in Africa and the Middle East. While we have experience of the full environmental impact assessment process for mining, we have been particularly successful in producing air quality assessments that model and monitor emissions of fine particulate and dusts from quarrying and open cast mining operations.
