Phlorum was established in 2003 by Paul Beckett and Richard Schofield. Their aim was to build an environmental consultancy business that practises honesty, friendliness, openness and a passion for everything they do.
Phlorum is a team of highly qualified and experienced consultants who are focused on doing good things and surpassing their clients’ expectations. We provide professional, knowledge-based solutions that are tailor made to solve our clients’ problems.
“We punch well above our weight, working with companies in the UK and overseas, which range in size from multi-nationals and government agencies to SMEs. Our reputation and standing with our peers also allows us to complement our core skills with input from trusted partners and associates, giving us the ability and agility to provide a complete and flexible service.” Dr Paul Beckett
Dr Paul Beckett has an academic background in plant physiology and atmospheric sciences. His research includes published papers on elevated carbon dioxide effects on biomass crops and air pollution interactions with trees.
A widely acknowledged expert on Japanese knotweed, he has been involved in the control of this pernicious weed since the early 90s. He continues to supervise research into knotweed and is an experienced expert witness where Japanese knotweed affects property.
He is experienced in giving evidence in UK and Irish courts, public inquiries, the Lands Tribunal, Development Consent Order hearings and local planning committees. He is a member of the Expert Witness Institute.
Richard Schofield has been working in environmental consultancy since the mid-90s, initially for some of the largest players in this field. He has broad experience in environmental management, using his Batchelor’s degree in environmental science and a Masters in EIA and auditing.
While still practically involved in some projects, he is particularly experienced in managing complex projects where holistic understanding of environmental issues is key. This includes experience in environmental compliance and permitting, auditing, environmental management, EIA coordination, as well as specific skills and qualifications in contaminated land assessment, environmental management systems, Japanese knotweed and ecological surveys and appraisals.
He has provided expert witness services on topics such as contaminated land and Japanese knotweed.
